Explainer Toy
By Navid Safabakhsh
Problem
Since we’ve expanded our services and launched our new site, we’ve had a hard time explaining our full capabilities to our clients. We spent a great deal of time on our services page but we wanted to go a bit further for people who aren’t a client just yet. I think it’s because there are so many services, people (especially non-web people) get overwhelmed and don’t really take the time to learn what’s involved (even on a higher level). Some people would argue that the client isn’t really suppose to care/understand but I think it’s very important. The more they understand, the better we can align their business goals with their web properties. So when it came to developing material to explain our services, we took the time to design a cardboard toy that you can play around with to learn more about our services. There are a few cool things about it
1) It’s fully hand made. So if you have one, you know you’re special.
2) It’s interactive! You can rotate the parts to reveal various information that you’re interested in.
3) It’s real! You can break it, burn it, or keep it. You can give it someone else. You can’t delete it.
The underlying message of this piece and why we chose to execute it like this is that we pay close attention to detail and we have not forgotten about the real world and its value. We take both worlds very seriously and I personally feel that most of the innovation in 2010 will happen in technologies that are connecting more and more of the real world information (in huge volumes) and leveraging the web to collect, suggest, interpret, and if possible, control something back in the real world.
