We’re seeking a freelance/part-time digital illustrator for both current and on-going work on a project basis.

• English and Spanish speaker (other languages are valued).
• Strong organization skills and knowledge of web applications such as dropbox, google sites/docs, etc.

Location Arrangement

This is freelance/part-time work on a project basis.  It’s preferably to be located in Mexico to collaborate closer with our Guadalajara office but we are open to working with you remotely if your organization skills and commitment allows for a smooth relationship.

We are increasingly producing more content in the form of ebooks, blog posts, tweets, etc. for our web properties, and don’t have enough resources to manage it all. We are looking for a well-rounded, tech savvy writer who also has industry expertise.

You should have expertise in at least 2 of the following areas:

We are currently developing a SaaS for franchisors, and is seeking to hire someone with experience in franchising to aid in the successful product launch and with ongoing business development.  The product will be marketed towards franchisors as the ultimate 360 toolkit to provide franchisees for managing their web presence. We’ll be able to show more information on the product and the services that can be sold around it during the interview.

The product will be released in the beginning of March, 2010.

The most important things to understand about the product is that it:

• Has a very high ROI potential
• Has an amazing product team behind it
• Does not imitate any of the competition in any way

Candidates for this position should:

• Have at least 3 years of experience working in a franchising corporation, as a franchise consultant and/or as a successful franchiser.
• Have a deep network within the community of franchisees, franchisors, and franchise consultants around the nation.
• Enjoy (online and offline) networking and attending events and conferences.
• Have no issues with frequent travel.
• Be relentlessly resourceful.
• Be very organized and enjoy metrics-based goal setting.
• Understand the sales cycle and how to build a recurring pipeline
• And most importantly, be able to PASSIONATELY SELL THE PRODUCT

Responsibilities

• Work with the technology project teams to guide the design of new applications to support the client’s business needs.
• Assist in the estimation of work for the Web Technologies group by defining task breakdown, project duration and concurrent effort.
• Assist in production escalation and problem resolution.
• Function independently with project assignments and with minimal supervision.
• Exhibit a process-oriented mindset.
• Produce detailed and accurate documentation relating to assigned projects and tasks.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years development experience and 5 years of Java development experience
• MUST have Spring MVC experience- >1+
• 2+ years of experience on Web-specific development.
• 2+ years demonstrated development experience with Java, J2EE, JSP, JavaScript, and HTML.
• Basic knowledge of Unix and SQL commands.
• Understanding of browser capabilities and design constraints on the web.
• Experience in collaborative teams using revision control systems such as CVS.
• Ability to demonstrate previous work via URLs.
• Strong attention to detail, good communications skills, and a positive attitude.
• Prior experience in e-commerce software application development
• Spring MVC knowledge is a required skill set

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate will come from an agency, consultancy or IT Services background. The role requires good knowledge of Web Application development technologies and modern frameworks (e.g. MVC). The role is a hands-on analysis and development opportunity. A software engineer works within a development team, taking responsibility for technical design, implementation, and testing. They will work closely with the Technical, Project and QA managers to ensure on time and on quality delivery of websites and applications.

The central part of the role is working with our Creative and Strategy teams to formulate and execute ideas in a highly innovate market. In this mix a software engineer needs to highlight technology enabled ideas and identify ways to achieve the creative vision in a pragmatic and effective way.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:

• Programming Languages: Ruby
• Database Platforms: MySQL
• Web Services: REST essential, SOAP/WSDL non-essential
• Client-Side Scripting: Javascript
• Markup Languages: XML, HTML, xhtml
• Other: ’NIX experience essential.

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years working within a structured software development environment
• 3+ years building rich internet applications using web services for web client UI interaction and MySQL

Qualities / Required ApproachTechnology at the Core: Get more familiar with new languages and learn very quickly to properly plan projects with a deep influence from the underlying technology. The tech team will look to you for guidance and you’re what the management is relying on

Fast: We need you to always be thinking of a faster way. Time is most definitely money. We should always be striving to do things in a more modular and faster way and a better/more refined process is always at the core of the solution. We will rely on you to let us know of issues with the process.

Thorough: If it has to be redone or it’s not really done, it’s not really done. The project manager is the last filter so he has to be the most thorough of all people involved in all aspects of the project and always try to poke holes in every part of the project. We expect this of you and will hold you accountable at the end of the day.

Balancing Act: Be able to balance the client demands (timeline and budget) with the technical quality of the product. You always have to weight both side and consult with both the management and production teams and make your final recommendations for important decisions to the management team.

Timelines: We know that timeliens are never perfect but we expect you to provide detailed timelines listing assumptions, variabilities associated, resources involved, plugins/extensions/technologies used, dependencies, and any other variables neccassary to clarify the requires of the timeline. Also, you need to be able to develop Gant charts (not hard to learn) – they help in communicating a detailed timeline.

Object Oriented: Take an object oriented approach towards everything from documentation to wireframing.

Guide with flexibility: Projects change all the time. If uncertain about a particular component of a project, approach actively identify all areas that need further investigation and engage with the appropriate parties to define them.

Easy to talk to: Establish a comfortable relationship with the entire design and development team. The ability to communicate with the technical production manager will be resolution too many issues.

Problem Solver: Be a link between the different production members to connect them to one another when they hit a road block. Research: Constantly research the latest and share the knowldege throughout the entire company.

Education: Identify the key areas that people are lacking in and pair them up with someone that is skilled in that area or setup a time for them to learn that particular skill in detail when they aren’t as busy.

Clarify before confusion: Take proacative steps to be detailed the first time around in any communication between the management and production team. Don’t wait until someone gets confused to reply with a more detailed response.

Organization: Properly use the project management system, version management system, bug trackers, email, and all other tools as established by the company’s management. The entire production team will be looking to you for that guidance. It is extremely important that you are the most organized of all and work constantly to make sure everyone complies with the same set of organizational rules.
