With a successful and healthy bricks-and-mortar business established, Ace Designs, Inc. wanted to expand its extensive infrastructure onto the web to open a new source of revenue. They had a rough concept for a new web application meant to leverage their core business model, but after sinking tens of thousands of dollars into a failed venture with an overseas development firm, they were in search of a domestic partner that could see the idea through to fruition.
After a few brainstorming sessions, Freshout helped Ace Designs hammer out a solid product plan for Framebuilder - an application allowing users to upload photos and have them printed and shipped to them on various sized framed canvases. We jumped right into data modeling, identity designs, and creating wireframes and mock-ups to start experimenting with various user interfaces. It was very important to make the tool as simple as humanly possible, so that users of all backgrounds could effortlessly upload, position, and frame their photos before checking out.
the robust yet elegant solution that Ace had dreamed of
But we didn't stop there. Freshout also planned for the logistical and operational aspects by designing custom applications that integrated with the popular CRM application, SugarCRM. All of the order information was seamlessly transferred to SugarCRM for a smooth customer experience before and after the purchase. Going a step further, we built a dynamic gradient generator so that users could select the wall color of the room where they wanted to hang the framed canvas to get a sneak preview of what it would look like. We also developed Framebuilder's ordering system to integrate with a bar coding and inventory system, so that inventory could be updated and managed in real-time and barcodes could be generated automatically upon receipt of order submissions. The product was planned, designed, and developed within 12 weeks and proved to be the robust yet elegant solution that Ace had dreamed of.
